Christmas questionnaire

I found this quiz on Melissa's blog who found it on someone else's blog. I, too, thought it would be fun to share. Here are my answers:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I wrap my gifts, even though I don't do a great job. But I don't put bows or ribbon on them since I end up having to stack them to transport to Mom & Dad's for the exchanges.

2. Real tree or Artificial?
We've never had a real tree. Down in South Texas, the weather isn't likely to keep them in great condition. And I'm pretty sure someone in the house might end up being allergic to them. Then there's the mess to contend with. Nope, we do artificial. In fact, even growing up we had an artificial tree. When Howie was born, we bought our first pre-lit tree and last year I bought our second pre-lit tree - a big 12-foot tall tree that is just gorgeous (and it was on sale for only $99 at Wal-Mart).

3. When do you put up the tree?
I like to put up the tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I love to keep it up as long as possible, into the first weekend of the new year, if I can.

4. When do you take the tree down?
The first weekend after the new year.

5. Favorite gift received as a child?
I'm easy, I love anything!! But I specifically remember getting a stereo and the Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" cassette one year that I loved so much!!

6. Hardest person to buy for?
My mom

7. Easiest person to buy for?
The boys

8. Mail or email Christmas cards?
I've never emailed cards, but I'm not very good at sending cards either. Last year I posted a photo and sent greeting through Facebook. This year I mailed out a few cards!!

9. Favorite Christmas Movie?
I don't have a favorite Christmas movie. Usually the shows we watch on Disney will end up with some variation of "A Christmas Carol" and that's fine. I do like "Scrooged" with Bill Murray. That was funny.

10. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Usually after Thanksgiving. I'm not one of those people who will stand outside the stores at midnight, but I'll try online at midnight for sales. Otherwise, I'll hit the stores at regular hours on Black Friday and shop from then on until I get it all done. This year, we did do some shopping online and I liked that a lot.

11. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Not that I can recall.
12. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Cookies!!

13. Lights on the tree (colored or clear)?
Clear

14. Favorite Christmas song?
I don't know the words, but I love to hear "Christmas Bells" because I remember having to learn the part for our Christmas concert in Junior High.

15. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Since we all live in town, we stay here. First we open family gifts at our house with the boys, then go over to Mom & Dad's to open gifts with everyone else.

16. Angel, star or ribbon on top of tree?
I've had each at different times. This year there is a Santa hat on top of the tree.

17. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Christmas morning.
18. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
I love this time of year and try to not get annoyed by any of it. I know people are stressed about having money or buying gifts, so if they are frustrated I let it slide. Most people, though, are happy and in good spirits. I like that!

19. What do you want for Christmas this year?
Want? Hmmm, scrapbooking goodies do the trick for me.

20. Traditional colors (red and green) or other colors?
Traditional colors.

So there it is! Now, how about you? Please let me know if you decide to fill out these questions, I'd love to hear your answers!

December Daily: Days 5-9

In an effort to keep my days recorded on the blog, I'm not taking such sophisticated photos. These came straight out of my iPhone.

Day 5: Photo of the cover next to the journaling page. We didn't do anything that day that I had a photo of, so I just journaled along with the #JYC prompt.

Day 6: This page is attached to a 5x7 envelope. In the envelope are the various drafts of Santa letters that I've accumulated from Howie and Dave. I can only imagine how many more lists I would have if Oscar could write. And on my journaling page is my list of people to get gifts for and whether I've done it or not. Then some journaling on a prompt.

Day 7: The clear overlay is over the journaling page where I attached a photo of one of my favorite ornaments that says "Believe".

Day 8: Our Lionel train was delivered today. It's a Hogwarts Express train and fits perfectly under the tree. I also took photos of the boys today so that I could include with Christmas cards.

Day 9: I made the personalized videos from Santa at Portable North Pole. I saw some tweets on it today and thought I'd try it out. I don't recall who said that watching it made them tear up. Surely a video of Santa wouldn't make someone cry, yet after I watched the first one I WAS CRYING!! It was so sweet and I could imagine how my youngest would react to the video. He loved it! The other two enjoyed it but knew it was something I put together.

Feels good to be caught up on the daily stuff. I haven't kept up with each prompt from Journal Your Christmas, Picture the Holidays, or Reverb, but I've got the ideas in the back of my mind and will stick them in the appropriate place if/when I do them.

How's your December Daily coming along?

Keeping up with my December Daily

Maybe it hasn't exactly been every day that I'm making my pages, but I think about it everyday and mentally put things together. Here's the last few days, December 2nd thru 4th. Still thinking about the 5th.
I was also recording my reverb10 in this album, but not sure if I'll continue to do that or keep it separate. It's not really part of the "family" documenting that I want to do. It's more personal and maybe something that should go in a personal journal-type book. We'll see.

Talk about running out of day to document anything. This was the most I could get. I was busy at work and didn't get anything worth photographing for the day.

On the backside, I did write out a response to reverb10's day 2 prompt.

A couple of baking photos, not really a story. And a photo of the kids playing outside and some thoughts on letting them play outside and use their imagination.

Again, reverb10's prompt 3 on backside.
Photo collage of stuff we did on Saturday with handwritten journaling. It's so much easier to write it out.

Working on the prompt for backside. Will get a couple more days under my belt before posting again. Also, I wanted to write out and capture some photos to include from Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas prompts. They are really good and will be excellent supplements to documenting December. Right now, I'm just trying to get in the regular everyday stuff, for sure.

Hope your December Daily is coming along, for those participating. If you're not, I hope that you'll find some way to record all the crazy and fun stuff you're doing for the holidays.

Documenting the Holidays

So I made the foundation pages for my December Daily album in the last few weeks and I was ready to go on November 26, the day I usually start getting ready for Christmas. I try not to get any Christmas decorations out before Thanksgiving. I don't want to rush the holidays! I did manage to get in a shopping day in November and one day to buy new Christmas decorations, but I kept it all in storage boxes.

I started taking pictures for the album and kept some journaling in my notebook so that I could put it all together when I finally had the time and energy. Seems I have to wait all day to get into my scraproom and then I run out of steam! But not today, my friends.

I'm finding my Mac easy to work with, which is still hard for me to believe. I've just been a PC person since the beginning of time - like 1993 when it seems I "had" to learn how to use one. I printed photos from my iPhone and camera card without problem, opened up documents in Photoshop and InDesign and worked with them to print, again without a problem. I'm only telling you this because I really am amazed!

Here are the first few pages:
Using Ali's title page that she posted on her blog today, I changed it up a little to customize for my album.

Just to recap, I'm doing Ali Edwards' December Daily, Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas,  Tracy Clark's Picture the Holidays, and as of today, Reverb10. I'm also getting Paperclipping's holiday photo tips. Lots of scrapping goodness going on! Mostly I just want lots of incoming inspiration. I will be trying to following the prompts by each as much as possible, but primarily I just want to document the season. We've got lots of things planned for the next month and I can't wait to enjoy them all and then record them!
